Active vs passive movements

Av Mariano D'Angelo Skapad: 2024-08-28

Hi!

We are looking for healthy participants to take part in a study that aims to understand how self-touch contributes to body perception. The experiment consists of two short sessions performed in two different days. The first session consists of a screening phase lasting no more than 10 mins, followed by the first part of the experiment. The second session is the second half of experiment. Each session lasts no more than 1 hour (Total duration of the experiment: 2 hours)

Task
You will receive gentle touches on your right hand while your left index finger will touch a soft surface in two conditions: in the active condition you will actively move your finger. In the passive condition your finger will be passively moved by a small robotic arm. You will answer simple questions about the perception of the touches (e.g., if the touches you received are synchronous as compared to the touches you gave)

Compensation
The compensation is 500 SEK for both sessions or 1 cinema ticket in case you do not pass the initial screening phase.

Who?
To be eligible to participate you must:
- be right-handed
- be between the ages of 18-45 years old
- have no history of neurological, psychiatric, or neurodevelopmental disorders
- not currently be taking medication that affects cognitive functioning
- understand and speak English

Where?
Biomedicum building, Karolinska Institutet, Solnavägen 9

When?
Testing will take place in February 2025
