As a follow up to our ongoing study Big Sleep Study (see 447_BIG-Sleep-Study), the Sleep Team at
Stockholm University is now conducting a study assessing the effects of COVID vaccination on sleep
and cognition.
The main purpose of the study is to investigate how the immune system and sleep affect daily life
functions such as memorising information. The research is carried out at Stockholm University.
If you want to take part in our Vaccination study but have not yet completed Big Sleep, please still
get in touch. The order in which the studies are completed is very flexible.
You can participate if you:
-Are between 18-50 years old
-Are fluent in English or Swedish
-Are unaffected by sleep disorders or a severe mental health disorder
-Can abstain from coffee and smoking/snus for 1 day without problems
We are looking for participants who are PLANNING to get their COVID Vaccination, whether it is the
first, second or third dose this not matter.
You cannot participate if you are not planning to get vaccinated (e.g. fully vaccinated), please
refer to the BIG Sleep study if you will still like to participate in our experiment.
In your own home, you will follow your assigned sleep protocol (participants counterbalanced to
either sleep 4 hour or 9 hour) one day before you are booked for your vaccination. Then, after
receiving the vaccine, you will spend another night sleeping either 4 hours or 9 hours. Your test
session at the testing facilities at Stockholm University (Albano) should be as close as possible to
24 hours after receiving your vaccine. The session will last 3h30min, during which you will perform
several tasks, complete questionnaires, and a blood sample will be taken. A week before you
vaccination, you will wear an actigraph around the wrist of your non-dominant arm when you sleep and
complete a sleep diary in the morning and evening.
Compensation for taking part in this study: 600 SEK (taxable) with the chance of winning an
additional 65 SEK) based on how you perform on the tasks.
Compensation for taking part in both studies: 1800 SEK (taxable) with the chance of winning an
additional 195 SEK (taxable) based on how you perform on the tasks.
