Hi! Thank you for your interest in participating in our study.
My name is Sara Coppi, a PhD student at the Brain, Body and Self Lab at the Karolinska
Institutet.
Currently, we have some ongoing projects for my PhD!
We are inviting volunteers to take part in a psychological study during which we investigate pain
perception.
I will briefly explain what the experiment is. If you have any further questions, please do not
hesitate to contact me and ask them. I will happily reply 🙂
The purpose of this research study is to increase our understanding of how we perceive pain. The
actual experiment consists of different blocks. These blocks will involve several nociceptive
stimulations (it is NOT electric shock) of about 7 milliseconds each. The nociceptive stimulation
resembles heat, and sometimes it will have some weak pain components.
The experiment consists of 1 session of around 75 minutes. During the experiment, you will receive
trials with consecutive laser inputs and be asked to press a button as quickly as possible when you
feel the pain.
Participation is voluntary, and there is always the possibility to withdraw at any time.
The compensation will be either 250 SEK (taxable, and only if you have a personnummer) or a cinema
ticket.
Before booking an appointment, I need to check your eligibility with a few fast YES/NO questions.
Please, show your interest and I will check your eligibility.
Pre-Experiment Guidelines (Exclusion Criteria)
To ensure accurate results and your safety, please follow these guidelines before the experiment:
❌ Do NOT consume alcohol, recreational drugs, medications, painkillers, or similar substances
within 24 hours prior to the experiment.
❌ Do NOT sunbathe in the three weeks leading up to the study.
❌ You CANNOT participate if you have been diagnosed with psychological disorders (e.g.,
schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression, or anxiety disorders).
Best,
Research Leader: Sara Coppi.
Research Manager: H.Henrik Ehrsson.
FYI
The address is Solnavägen 9, Solna 17171 Stockholm. The building is Biomedicum. I will give you
more details when we agree on the time and date!
Thank you, I hope to see you soon! 🙂
