Help Shape the Future of Digital Rearview Mirrors! (Driver's License required)

Av Kjell Brunnström Skapad: 2026-04-21

Rearview mirrors in cars have looked the same for a long time, but is that about to change? Digital rearview mirrors (external cameras combined with internal displays) have already been introduced on the Swedish market and are appearing on Swedish roads. We are looking for participants for a study at RISE AB to build knowledge for the development of these systems in future vehicles.

What is the project about and why should I participate?
The purpose of this project is to investigate how flickering in Camera Monitor System (CMS) displays, i.e. digital rearview mirrors, affects drivers' perception and decision-making. The research is conducted by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB in collaboration with Scania, SmartEye, Volvo Cars, and Volvo Trucks.

What to Expect
Take part in a driving simulation using pre-recorded footage.
Complete short tasks to judge perception through the system after each scenario.
The full session takes approximately 1 hour, including preparations and instructions.
As a token of appreciation, you will receive a gift card with a value of SEK 200.

Risks and Privacy
Risks: There are no known major risks, though some participants may experience mild visual discomfort or eye strain when viewing flickering visual stimuli.
Data Privacy: All collected results and interview transcriptions will be anonymized. Your data will not be linked to your personal or booking information. All anonymized data is handled securely by RISE.

Requirements for Participation
1. Hold a valid Swedish driver's license
2. Are fluent in English (spoken and written)
3. Have normal or corrected-to-normal vision sufficient for driving
4. Are at least 18 years old
5. Have not taken part in a previous study on digital mirrors at RISE

Preparations
If you require visual aids for a distance of approximately 1–1.5 meters, please bring your glasses or contact lenses to the session. Otherwise, no specific preparation is needed.

The study is conducted in Kista, Stockholm.
